2015 Goals & Resolutions

2015Happy new year! I hope everyone’s having a great time no matter where you are 🙂 Learning from my mistakes in 2014, I do have a few things that I want to fix and accomplish so these goals and resolutions will hopefully help me to achieve them if I haven’t forgotten about them yet in Idk a few months lol

Figure out about my future
My number one priority right now — even if sometimes it doesn’t look like it. I’m currently a junior in high school (6 months away from being a senior!) so I’m hoping that I can get over this as quickly as possible if I want to determine where to study abroad and find a scholarship. My best subject is biology, but I have no interest in becoming a doctor and a degree in ecology doesn’t seem very profitable and flexible (???) My life is a gigantic question mark. You see my point now >_<

Read 30 books
I’m aiming for a small number in case I fall into lots of slumps like last year and there’s still my obsession with anime/manga that is hard to control most of the time.

Catch up or finish some series
I have a habit of seemingly “ditching” series midway so I’m hoping to change that this year! I don’t necessarily have to complete the series but catching up to the most recently-published or the available ones in my country is enough, I guess. Some books that I’m planning to read:

  • Cress (Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer
  • Deliverance (Defiance #3) by C.J. Redwine
  • Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles #2) by Melina Marchetta
  • The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa
  • P.S. I Still Love You (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han

Practice digital art skills
I love using Photoshop but I haven’t had the time to play around with it recently. Blame my laziness.

Socialize with more bookish people (and otaku as well)
Once upon a time, I was a diligent commenter. These days, I realize that I’ve been slacking off with commenting or visiting other people’s blogs… I don’t use Twitter as much as I used to either. I’m on Tumblr way more often these days -__-

Come to Anicult 2015
HELL YEAH! Anime convention is rare in Surabaya so I’m taking every chance I can get. Anicult 2014 was so much fun (though painful for my wallet) — I’m sure this year is gonna be like that as well!

Enjoy life and be happy
If I fall into reading or blogging slump again, I’m not gonna feel sorry. I’m not gonna try to schedule posts anymore because it caused me so much stress last time I tried. If being disorganized makes me happier, then let it be…

That’s it, folks! May all your hopes for 2015 come true 🙂

  1. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I wish I could give you some advice on the future thing but I’m 22 and I still have no idea which career path I’d like to take. I decided against going to university until I figure it out, because I didn’t want to get into so much debt for something I wasn’t sure I wanted to do. I’m currently thinking about something to do with English Lit or Ancient History, but I also love languages so I don’t know. Maybe my advice could be to take your time? Haha. Although that’s not always realistic.

My commenting game is WAY down, but I want to fix it this year too.

    1. That’s okay, Amber 🙂 I wish I could take a year off after graduating high school to figure stuff out but my parents don’t want that. I’m afraid I might end up regretting the choice I made.

  2. Happy new year Kezia! Best of luck with all your goals this year. Your dreams are out there somewhere, just don’t stop looking. 😀 I’m going for 40 books this year which is a lot less than last year but I have to go with a small number just in case as well.

    1. Thank you, Laura! I know, I wish it weren’t so freaking hard to be found haha. I’m glad I’m not the only one who goes with smaller numbers because a lot of bloggers choose to read 100+ books. I even know one who wants to read 350+ xD But going with our own pacing is definitely better than pushing ourselves too much 🙂

  3. Happy New Year!

It’s so hard to find your direction to study in. I choose a rather broad subject so I could specialise on the way. Maybe you can look into the research side of biology? You wouldn’t have to actually treat people, and it has more opportunities than the ecological side.

Anyways, I hope you find something you like 😀

    1. Happy new year, Celine!

Yeah, I’m thinking of a flexible subject as well, so that I will have more options for my career path. And thank you for the suggestion! I will think it over 😀

  4. Nothing beats Tanaka and Noya to represent goals and aspirations for the New Year, LOL. Aw, you can figure it out. Even after a college, I still asked that. Even now! But don’t be scared to try what you wanted once you figured it out even though people may think is not profitable. It feels great to go work with smile on your face. I wanted to try digital art too, but I already suck at traditional so yeah…haha. xD

Enjoy life and be happy! —> Big ditto to this!

    1. IKR these two are just so damn optimistic and energetic I’m simply jealous at times.

I don’t know if it’s too much to ask for a profitable job that I highly enjoy. I mean, I’m also responsible for my parents in the future… And since I’m the only child, I have to work twice or a few times harder than other people who have siblings to earn money to support my parents….

I personally think I can draw but my skills are very rusty haha. I don’t draw as much as I used to anymore. xD

  5. Figuring out your future is always a difficult task, so I wish you good luck! Just like you I keep my reading goal low, so I don’t feel too stressed about it. Good luckw tih all your goals and I hope 2015 is an amazing year for you!

  6. Oooh biology, haha, I’ve always loathed biology. Maybe major in English? I think it would be awesome to become a publisher. I’m going into my second semester as a freshman in college and I’ve been thinking about double majoring in English (I’m already majoring in Computer Science). This year, I’m aiming for 115 books since I slacked so much last year. Hopefully I’ll reach it!

    1. Haha, I hate studying bio when it comes to memorizing those latin names O_O But I have a good memory so I always get the best marks in bio surprisingly.

Becoming a publisher is a nice idea, Leigh! I can publish translated books here faster than it usually takes haha. I actually consider opening a bookstore which sell lots of imported books especially YAs 🙂 There are so few bookstores which sell English books so it’s an opportunity I guess.

Good luck with your goals, Leigh! I’m sure you’ll reach it 🙂

  7. It’s so pressuring to think about how this one choice on what you major in can affect your whole life, you know? But I’m sure whatever you decide to do with your life you’ll do wonderfully. ♥ Happy New Year!

  8. Thanks for stopping by my blog, Kezia. Yours is absolutely stunning and elegant. I, too, need to step up my photoshop game and get back into the world of social media in the blogosphere. Great goals and I hope you knock them all out of the park 🙂

Try not to let college and the future deter you. You have time to choose, most people don’t choose their major until their junior year of college. I still have friends who are jumping around and switching majors because they don’t know what they want to do, and others are racking up majors and minors because there are so many things that interest them. College is the time to experience. You’ll take general classes, and who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with your psych class or your art class. I took up Japanese to fulfill a language credit and now I’m double majoring in Asian Studies and studying abroad in Japan in the spring semester all because of that one choice during freshman orientation. There aren’t as many options to choose from in high school, so when you get to college get your feet wet. Challenge yourself. You’ll find what’s right for you in time, don’t you worry 🙂

Sorry for the long comment! I hope you’re new year is worth while!

    1. OMG thank you, Courtney! Now you make me feel embarrassed I’ve been in love with your blog design since when it was called Rondo O////O

Thank you for the advice too and nope, I don’t mind your long comment at all! In fact, I really really appreciate it 🙂 It is a bit stressful trying to figure out what to major in, especially since I will unlikely to study in the US. I would like to major in a lot of subjects or take up new classes that interest me. Unfortunately, universities here only let students to major in one thing, and I’m not quite sure about the other universities in other countries that I’m interested to apply to. I totally agree about getting our feet wet in college though — I don’t get to participate in many events in high school so in the future I will definitely try to join many clubs or organizations in university. 🙂

  9. HAPPY NEW YEAR. Good luck with figuring out what you want with your life. It can be so hard to pick the right path, but I’m sure you will get it right 🙂 You can do more things with biology than becoming a doctor though! I use my biology daily and I’m into microbiology. Just ask for some advice at school to see all the things you could do with it? (If you like biology of course :p just because you are good at it doesn’t mean you want something to do with it)

Enjoy life and be happy is the most important thing ever 🙂

    1. Happy new year too, Mel! I do like biology, but there are moments where I want to pull my hair out, such as when I’m memorizing those plants and animals’ Latin names -__- And worms cycles as well! I remember there were so many types of worms and each has different cycle. What made things even harder was the fact that my previous teacher didn’t explain anything, we were only given hand-outs to memorize for the test >_<

  10. These are awesome goals!! 🙂 Haha I’m currently a freshman in high school, but by the time I reach 11th grade, I’m taking up pre-college so I also need an effing course by then lol. My best subject is English, but everyone doesn’t want me to write because “it’s hard.” I understand the struggle. Pretty sure everyone does. 🙂

I have to catch up with so many series too! I still need to read Cress as well! But I can’t find a copy agh! 😮 I’m already desperate.

    1. I also get good grades in English and I love studying the language. It feels nice to be able to get above average marks in a subject where some of friends tend to struggle haha. Really, English tests at my school are SO easy. But yeah, I get what people think. Being a writer is hard, since you don’t know whether people will buy your books or how much money will you make. Journalists usually aren’t paid much as well :/

Gah, I want to read Cress as well! I’m planning to order it soon-ish though 😀

  11. That’s a really wonderful final goal you’ve got listed, it’s all about not pressuring yourself and staying balanced and just accepting that you’re not able to do everything at once! Sometimes it’s important to take a break. How exciting about that anime convention. I hope you work out what you want to do in life, although remember that it will always work out in the end!

    1. True that! I don’t want blogging nor reading (which are supposed to be an enjoyment) to become a burden to me. Yeah, I can’t wait for the convention! It was so much fun, though it was a bit saddening on the financial side LOL. I spent so much for anime merchandises hehehe

  12. Yes, my future has a big fat question mark as well. Everyone seems to know what they want to do–and I just wanna stay home in bed reading and eating ice cream ;___;

I hope you get to accomplish all your goals, Kezia 🙂

    1. Ugh, you’re right, Melanie 🙁 I wish I can be a teenager forever *sobs* It’s so nice since we don’t have HUGE responsibilities yet and the hardest things are probably exams and assignments.

Thank you! I hope you accomplish yours as well, Melanie 🙂

  13. Happy new year, Kezia! I hope you accomplish all of those, because I know what’s it like to have a big question mark for your career. That’s my problem right now. *shrug* I’m basically screwed for my life, so we’re in this boat together. Because really, I do NOT know what to do with my life.

    *heaves a gigantic sigh*

    1. Thank you so much, Shannelle! ^^ Highfive for being stuck in the same situation… I don’t know what to do because I have sooooo many things I’d like to accomplish… I want to open a bookstore with lots of English books, I’d like to work in international relations, someday I also want to be a graphic or web designer….I hope both of us can figure this out in the end 🙂

  14. Awesome goals! Hope you enjoy Cress! I love that series 😀 I love playing around in Photoshop too. Have fun practicing! I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do after high school until I was a senior in high school and then even changed my major after my first year in college. It’s hard to know what you want to do in the future when you’re not sure what you like and don’t like. Sometimes you just have to try something, or multiple things 🙂

    1. Yep, thank you, Stephanie! I’m sooo curious about Cress because my friend said it was the best in the series so far 😀 Right now I’m gearing toward trying out multiple things so let’s hope I will be able juggle them all and manage my time well.

  15. NOYA AND TANAKA — MY BABIES, BASICALLY. A picture of those two is basically encouragement in itself. xD

And hey, you still do have lots of time to figure out your future. I was in my last year of high school before I started thinking seriously about what I wanted to do. And even though I *think* I’ve pretty much figured out my career path, I’m still experiencing bouts of indecisiveness. I’m probably the most fickle person you’ll ever meet, honestly. But one good thing about colleges in the U.S. (if you’re interested in going there) is that they have “Undecided” as a freaking major. And it’s a popular major, too. So if you’re unsure, they do provide lots of support still! 😀

Oh my gosh, I am awful at finishing series, too. I can probably count on one hand the number of series I’ve finished. T_T I just have a really short attention span, man. The problem is that a lot of the series I start came from ARCs, and I don’t want to own the sequels in physical form if I don’t have the first book in physical form. (Yep. I’m picky, too.) Good luck with your reading goals, though! GANBATTE, KEZIA!

I need to socialize more, too. I’m spending more time watching anime and reading manga than I am hanging around the blogosphere, honestly. And drooling over pretty TG:re gifs and Akashi photosets. xD Socializing can be such a fucking pain sometimes, but I guess it’s necessary. *cries*

So — ALL THE BEST FOR THIS NEW YEAR, GIRL! I’m sure you can do it. And if you ever have doubts — rewatch Haikyuu!! and let Noya’s and Tanaka’s enthusiasm take over you. It’ll 100% work, I tell you. 😉

    1. IKR! I was looking for the right illustration and then I stumbled upon a transparent pic of those guys. I was like “GOSH THIS WILL BE PERFECT.”

The US sounded really nice, until I found out that getting scholarship there is really hard and even with a discount, it will still cost a great deal of money >__< I’m still interested since we don’t have to choose what to major in right away, but now chances that I’m going to study there is very slim…

Lol, someday series is gonna be the bane of our existence xD I’m also quite picky with buying books in a series — especially if I borrowed the first installment from my friend. I usually wait until I have enough saving to buy the first book and its sequel lol. Maybe I should read more standalones haha.

      Yeah, sometimes I’m just not in the mood to go around the blogosphere because my mind is occupied by other stuff — you know what 😛 And by the time I’ve run out of series to watch or manga to read, I’m already too tired to type a comment ;_;

Thank you, Meg! I wish all the best for you too <3 I re-watched the whole first season of Haikyuu last holiday and I agree that it was so re-energizing hahaha
