As a fan of fantasy genre, I highly enjoyed You Are Mine. I was hooked from the beginning and this book offers me a rather interesting concept. In the world created by Janeal Falor, women must undergo a test when they reach certain age to determine the level of magic in their blood. The higher the level, the more expensive they will be. And once they are sold, they will become the wife/slave of the warlock who bought them. However, I was hoping that the author would give more explanation/background about the magic stuff, cause some things still remain unanswered.
Fantasy can be a little heavy but this one turned out to be an engaging read once I got past the beginning. This book kept me interested and curious the whole time. The characters here are mostly likable, except Serena’s father – I couldn’t bring myself to like this abusive dad. I had a love-hate relationship with Serena. She is reckless and innocent, but sometimes can be vigilant, cautious and just worries too much – probably as the result of growing up with a father like that. Anyhow, I really liked Serena’s relationship with Cynthia.
Another good thing is the romance. I always like slowly-built romance as I can see the relationship grows throughout the story. And that’s the case with You Are Mine. It’s not steamy or anything, but it’s sweet and not rushed and I was rooting for this pairing the entire time!
While there were times I thought this was too slow and I felt like giving Serena a slap, I had a really great time reading this. All in all, You Are Mine is a very enjoyable book with interesting concept and sweet sweet romance. Huge thanks to Janeal Falor for the opportunity to read and review this book! 🙂
