Some quick thoughts on Spring Anime 2015

My initial reaction upon the beginning of the season: SO. MANY. FANTASY. I started 7 new series but dropped some along the way because I wasn’t too keen on continuing them. And I’m putting two shows on-hold at the moment (Ore Monogatari and Denpa Kyoushi). I think I was just not in the mood for shoujo or slice-of-life kinds of shows???

Arslan Senki | Imagine Akatsuki no Yona, but with a male lead and no romance. It’s a nice show and I like watching it, but it doesn’t give me much excitement nor drive me into obsession. Still, I will keep watching this anime since it’s gonna last for another season.

Owari no Seraph | I have been anticipating this anime since last year and I’m glad that it didn’t stray from the manga. This show was enjoyable and I totally approve Nakamura Yuuichi as Guren’s seiyuu! Despite that, I prefer the manga as usual. The anime makes some scenes come across as a little awkward so I’m slightly disappointed with the voice acting… (It’s possible that it only happens to me because so far, I haven’t encountered anyone who complains about it.)

Shokugeki no Souma | FOODGASM. Seriously though, reading the manga has already aroused my appetite multiple times and I can’t believe the anime managed to portray the food so deliciously realistic. Plus, this show is hilarious and I love those funny and adorable chibi expressions. Totally looking forward for the second half of the show!!! <33

Winter Leftover

Kuroko no Basket (Season 3) | IT HAS ENDED. Gahhh, I can’t believe the day has come for the anime to finish. That zone beyond the zone looks like space and it’s true when people on tumblr debate, “IS THIS STILL ABOUT BASKETBALL???” Anyway, Kurobasu is a beloved series of mine, and yeah I was emotional while watching the finale. Those epilogues are also animated in the last episode and it shows the Generation of Miracles moving on with their own teams and becoming a better person overall. Now, we only need to wait for the new OVA in Fall (and Extra Games chapters…) ;A;

Since I will be watching two spring leftovers next summer, I will limit the number of summer series I will follow. At the moment I’m strongly considering Gate, Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, God Eater and Aoharu x Kikanjuu. Again, I might drop any series so we’ll see how many will last at the end of the summer haha.

  1. I’m unsure if I should start Ore Monogatari… I like the twist the mangaka gave to a typical love story, but so far I’ve heard that it’s only so-so despite the sweet characters. But yep, I 100% agree with all your thoughts here.

    SO disappointed with Owari’s final episode. I know there’s going to be a second season, but at least try to wrap it up a little bit, you know? That ending gave literally no closure at all and I did not appreciate that. And nope, you weren’t the only one who thought the voice acting was awkward. I did too and I think that was a huge reason why I didn’t like the anime. Their reactions were so forced and awkward and there’d be like weird gaps between their conversations. And this was the studio that produced SnK! *shakes head* At least the music was good, haha.

    Shokugeki is definitely the highlight of the season! THE CHARACTERS ARE ALL SO ADORABLE AND LOVABLE, AHHHH. I don’t like cooking at all, but for some reason this anime really called to me, lol. Did you see Erina’s Eggs Benedict in the latest episode? BE STILL, MY STOMACH. And BE STILL, MY HEART — so sad that KnB is over! D: The studio did an amazing job with the adaptation and oh gosh, the feels during the final episode. I can’t wait until December for the OVA, but at least we only need to wait until October for Haikyuu!! S2! EEEEEP.

    (Sorry for this long-ass comment, I get a little excited when it comes to anime. xD)

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one >< Seriously, it was awkward enough listening to Mika's "yuu-chan"… And I don't like Shinoa's voice acting as well. LOL the power of food, Meg. I was hungry most of the time hahaha. I wish they would open up a restaurant where they would serve the food cooked in this series xD I SAW IT GODDDDD I WANT SOME ;A; gahhhh the OVA can't come soon enough. I'm looking forward to some GoM actions and better voice acting than Owari no Seraph lol. AND HAIKYUU OF COURSE. I really wanna see summer training camp animated and Fukurodani omg O_O this series is gonna be the death of me…

  2. I feel like putting Ore Monogatari on hold too! It’s just so casually sweet and I want chaos at the moment haha. Shokugeki no Souma was my favorite this season. I feel so happy after watching it but it has a lot of suspense too.

    I didn’t notice anything special about Owari no Seraph’s voice acting but I loved the OP and ED. The actual anime skipped over a lot of action scenes though, particularly the MAIN FINAL BATTLE?? WHERE DID IT GO?! I feel like I blinked and missed it.

    KnB ending killed me ughhh I couldn’t move for the rest of the day. I loved all of the character development and the action was A++ and Kuroko taping that picture to his locker awwww ;___;

    1. I agree with what you said. I usually can’t stand watching shoujo series, I’d prefer reading them hahaha. Maybe I should read the manga instead…

      Wait they did? I actually didn’t realize that they skipped action scenes >< I mean, they got the most of the main events right at least... I'm the opposite about the music though, tbh I dislike the opening and ending hahaha. Man, they cut Teiko arc into 4 episodes but I'm happy that at least Akashi's development in the final match isn't left out. I remember the manga panels when he was angry and then he was forced to look up to Kagami and Kuroko AND THEN HE SMILES. THREE TIMES. Four if you include that expression when he'shaking hands witH Kuroko ;A; i just looove the final episode <33

    1. Ahhh, I agree! The discussion about morality is definitely thought-provoking. I’m looking forward to Arslan’s development ^^ Gieve seems to have more trust in him too 🙂

  3. Little love for Ore Monogatari makes me a sad panda. 🙁 It’s very episodic which I think is the problem to some people who want a steady plot to follow. But I love OM, it’s the sweetest thing I ever read. The bromance, especially between Takeo and Suna, is one the best thing in that show!

    I love Shokugeki no Souma. It’s one my favorites series I follow right now, both anime and manga! I always love gourmet series so this one satisfy my visual appetite apart from the amazing the amazing story! So, so good!

    LOL well, if that’s out of this world then Eyeshield 21will blow your head off! But I damn loved ES21; one of my all-time fave sport anime/manga!

    (need to catch up with Arslan!) *face palm*

    1. I guess I do prefer a series with a clear plot but hey, I’m not closing the door to Ore Monogatari 😀

      Haha, totally agree about Souma. Watching or reading this series ALWAYS makes me hungry… And so many eye-candies here xD

      Oooh, I think one of my distant relatives (he’s around the same age as I am) recommended Eyeshield to me years ago but I didn’t listen xD Maybe I will give it a try haha. I’m watching so many sports series (I marathoned Daiya last week) but way too lazy to exercise for my own good lol.

  4. Akagami no Shirayuki-hime! That’s the only anime I’m going to follow this summer because I’ve read and LOVED LOVED LOVED the manga. So I’m really hoping it’s not complete crap. If it is I’m just going to go back to reading the rest of the manga.

    Definitely going to go check out Shokugeki no Souma now, because I haven’t been too interested in any of the Spring or even Winter anime (maybe except Durarara! but my interest for that has gone down a lot). I don’t know. For now I’m just trying to find an anime to watch and to get back into anime. Like Death Parade. Which was really awesome.

    1. I haven’t read the manga yet but oh my gosh I just saw the first episode of Akagami and it was pretty good!! I’m looking forward to the next episode ^^

      YESSSS!! Death Parade IS awesome and it was the best winter anime for me 😛 That series is just full of questions about morality and the finale was really emotional. I think I cried a bunch of times >_< I'm sooo glad you gave it a chance! I know that you're kinda in an anime slump now but hopefully you'll get out of it soon! Do give Souma a try because it's hilarious and full of awesome characters 😀
