2015 favorites & new discoveries: it’s time to choose!

Looking back on 2015, I think I did pretty well for someone who is trying to find a balance between real life and hobbies. While I realized that I had disappeared from the blogosphere multiple times (same old story HAH!) I did make some amazing new discoveries this year!

Bookish stuff

best reads 2015I only read 31 books this year. I know it’s such a small number to your 100s but hey, at least I met my Goodreads challenge despite my busy school life. Below are my favorite books in no particular order.

Things We Know By Heart by Jessi Kirby | The writing is so smooth and it captured me right from the start. I cried at some point near the ending. Can’t help it though! It was emotional!

The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord | One of my biggest discovery this year. I really LOVE Emery Lord and would read anything this author write. The friendship portrayal is so heartwarming and the romance is sweettttttt! So many spot-on and hit-me-in-the-feels quotes as well.

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer | Everyone has moved on to Winter but here I am, still stuck in the third book haha. But no kidding. Cress is an AWESOME book. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and I’m looking forward to reading Winter next year. My #1 ship is still Cinder and Kai though!

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas | HAH. Same case like Cress xD I’m super late to the party cause I’ve only started this series this year but guys, I happily hopped into the bandwagon because the story is INTENSE! In a good way, of course 😉 Especially the second book!

17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma | Another back list book that I read. Nova Ren Suma’s writing is incredibly gorgeous and I love how she’s able to build a mystical and creepy atmosphere. And that twist in the end? I didn’t see it coming at all!

So in conclusion, I found new author to watch out for and new series to follow! Not a bad year after all ^^

Otaku stuffbest anime 2015

I am tempted to talk about Haikyuu!! (who doesn’t?) and that new KNB OVA (overloaded with FEELS) but no, today I will only spotlight the series that I got into this year to avoid repetitiveness haha. The post title does say new discoveries!

Death Note | I know this series was published years ago but I’m soooo glad I watched it this year. Better late than never, right? Anyway, the plot is just brilliant and the characters are so intriguing. I couldn’t stop questioning which side was right!

Magi | I’m impressed at how smooth the animation is! But other than that, I really enjoyed watching Alibaba’s adventure and delving into the Magi universe. There are so many interesting powers and oh wow, gosh, THAT HUGE EPIC SHOWDOWN AT THE END OF SEASON 2! <33

Daiya no Ace | Another nice addition to the list of amazing sports anime! I wrote a post last week about how great it is but basically, this show features a lot of hard-working characters with fantastic development. AND MIYUKI KAZUYA!!! Dammit, my heart is breaking to pieces. He’s the most complex character in the whole series. The way Terajima-sensei constructs his character and peels him to nakedness is just WOW. Act II just began and I’m so stoked for future chapters!!

Owari no Seraph | A suffer-inducing series! Plus, there’s a guy who looks exactly like Tsukki, if not for the pink hair… (Yes Kimizuki, I’m talking about you.) I honestly prefer the manga more though. This series is simply addicting!

Death Parade | YASSSSSSSS. This series is SO beautiful. Like, I was tearing up when I was watching the last episode. SO EMOTIONAL. Death Parade takes a very simple concept about human’s life and death and manages to execute it very well.  I really enjoyed watching the moral discussion.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu | At some point I have to mention this series haha. It’s about a girl pretending to be a guy to join this group of survival games players. Really enjoyed the anime and it was pretty hilarious as well. I was very satisfied with the season finale so I can’t wait to start the manga. NEW SHIP IS COMING!!

Phew. I’m finally done with my 2015 favorites post! It took me so long because I was too lazy to make decent graphics… I ended up procrastinating A LOT xD So now, tell me your favorite books in 2015! And if you’re an otaku as well, LET’S TALK! What are some of your favorite shows this year?

    1. I’m still currently reading Heir of Fire as well! So good so far.

Kougyoku is pretttyyyy!! And you should! The animation is really good. As expected from A-1 pictures 😛

  1. Omg Crown of Midnight *sobs* That book was such a turning point for the series because it turned everything on its head. I loved it.

And Cress! I haven’t read Winter yet either, but I’m about to do a massive binge read of the Lunar Chronicles 😀

    Happy New Year!

    1. AGREED. CoM slaughtered my heart like REALLY HARD. And aaah, I hope you’ll love Winter! Binging a favorite series is always the best thing <33

      Happy New Year too, Bec!

    1. Thank you, Zoe <33 Yay, I think a lot of people feel that way too, considering ToG and Lunar Chronicles are like the most popular series at the moment hahaha.

  2. I really need to try The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord. I heard amazing praises, so maybe this is the book for me. I still can’t believe that you haven’t tried Death Note before but good thing you already did! And YASSSS~ I agree with everything on your anime list (though I wish I liked DnA, too. T^T) xD

    1. Yasss you should! Put it high on your list lol. Aww, I guess it’s ok if you didn’t like DnA. Though this is probably our first difference in anime taste hahahaa.

  3. I’ve read and enjoyed all of those books but 17 & Gone, which I still need to get to soon! Glad you liked them too 🙂 I watched Death Note for the first time last year as well and WOW, it’s got to be one of my favorite anime now. You’re right, it’s so hard to decide which side because of the morals and stuff. Speaking of morals, Death Parade YESSSSSSSSS. I loved that too, that episode hit me so hard with the feels. I wish the two characters could have had *something* but I understand the end *sniffs* Happy New Year!

    1. Omg, I know right. I was really torn, especially since I grew to like both L and Kira. It was so frustratingly good! xD Oh my god you were totally shipping those two haha! But yes, I agree about the ending. It’s a bit bittersweet but beautiful at the same time.
