My Grown Up Christmas List

Hello guys! I know it’s a bit late but I’m here to wish you guys a joyful Christmas (still in the vibes!) to everyone who celebrates and happy holiday! As a Christian, I believe Christmas is a reminder that God loves us so much to the point that He gives us the best present of all — His Son, Jesus Christ.

Upon reading the blog title, some of you might be familiar with it because it’s indeed a popular Christmas song title, which has been covered by many singers countless times. In summary, the song tells about someone who has grown out of their childhood Christmas wishlist. Instead, they now wish for “a world in need”, hence the song title “My Grown-Up Christmas List”. To quote parts of the lyrics:

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown-up Christmas list

The lyrics resonate so much to the current situation in the world. Somewhere on the other side of the Earth, wars and conflicts are still raging with seemingly no end in sight. People all around the world especially minority groups still face social discrimination and receive inhumane treatment due to their religions, races, ethnicities, etc. In 2016, we thought at least we had learned from our mistakes. Unfortunately, we can’t deny that injustice is still happening all around the world and turn a blind eye on it.

If I were to be honest, this post was also sparked by the recent religious intolerance incidents in Indonesia. But Indonesia isn’t the only country where intolerance still takes place. It’s a shame that even after all these years, why can’t we just live together side by side in peace? This Christmas, my only wish is the end of pain and suffering in this world. For all humanitarian crisis to be abolished. For all forms of racism and discrimination to steadily disappear. For the reign of love and peace.

Lastly, may we all reflect on the things which happened this year and prepare for the year ahead!

Cheers ^^

  1. That’s a great and truly an unselfish wish. I too long for a peaceful world. There’s so much violence happening everywhere, which is sad because numerous times mankind had experience suffering & death but we still didn’t learn from those events and keep repeating the same mistakes. It’s not the year was bad; it was us that made it horrible. I still have huge faith to mankind. As a simple step let’s all be kind to one another. 😀

    1. True! Despite all this violence and problems, let’s stay optimistic that the world will become a better place one step at a time!

      Happy new year<33

  2. I wasn’t familiar with the song but the message is very relateable. Thinking back on all that has happened the past few years, it really is nuts. Hopefully sooner rather than later we can find a way to accept all and be kind to each other instead of this spiral of destruction and war

    1. Really? So sorry I thought it was a well known song but apparently it isn’t! ^^; You should listen to it at least once though! The song has a great message and many singers have covered it with various styles. A lot of horrible things happened these past few years, let’s hope the number of violence will decrease in the future 🙁

  3. Aww, this really is a grown-up Christmas list. I hope you get what you asked for, for all of our sakes. This is one of my favorite blog posts of this season ^_^. I’m a Christian as well, and I hope that things get better in Indonesia 🙁 <3 Merry Christmas (and almost Happy New Year), Kezia!

    1. Hi Eli! Thanks for your kind words <33 There's a lot of greater posts though but I'm flattered that you find a favorite in mine ^^ Thanks for the well wishes, I hope for the same thing with your country. Merry Christmas and Happy new year 😀
